Early Potty / Elmination Communication
Doing the diaper thing works for some people. In fact, it can be an effective way to allow your baby to remain cleaner and drier if you change her after every times she goes to the bathroom. But many parents are now turning to alternative forms of potty training to form a closer bond with baby and to make the process of moving from diaper to toilet much less stressful.

EC is new concept of potty training. Back in 1930, English nannies brought early potty training to wealthy mothers. Their thought was routinely going to the bathroom is healthier and better for baby. But this is not EC.
What is EC?
EC is the process of communicating with your baby better and teaching baby that to poop and pee are very natural things. Also you will realize baby’s signal for having to go to the bathroom. You will learn to understand when baby has to go to the bathroom and her help build associations between certain places, sounds or cues with elimination.
It is highly likely you already have a good idea of when your baby needs to or is going to the bathroom. Does his face looked strained? Does he grunt and groan? What about the “bearing down” action? Once you are familiar with the way your child expresses his need to eliminate, you can start to respond.
What is the difference between EC and potty training?
Quite simply, there is no training involved. In potty training you convince your child to go to the bathroom on the toilet rather than in their diaper. With elimination communication, all you do is take heed to the signals baby already sends.
Some parents opt to continue to use diapers to monitor their baby’s elimination needs and to avoid unnecessary messes, but many others forego the diaper altogether. Once you become accustomed to your baby’s signals, you’ll be better able to get her to the bathroom in time, without worrying about having a lot of extra laundry to do.
Utilizing EC now will help develop your relationship with your kids in the future without having to use words. Relaying through only talking sometimes doesn’t get to the root of what your kids are thinking.
Better communication with baby
Your baby communicates with you through feeding, elimination, and sleeping, but you can also communicate back. This open line of communication makes baby secure and feel a tremendous amount of trust toward you. The baby who grows up in a secure and trusting environment will learn how to respect others.
Greater develop baby’s awareness
Utilizing EC in your home helps baby become aware of her surroundings much more quickly. She will pick up on her own signs of need to go to the bathroom and further let you know. The line of communication only continues to grow.
More economical
Using EC also eliminates the need for diapers. Diapers are incredibly wasteful and make up a large portion of our landfills. The plastics and chemicals used to make diapers do no biodegrade and emit toxins. These disposable diapers contribute to the world’s waste problem.
Less frustration associated with potty training
EC also gets rid of the stress parents often go through when attempting to potty train their kids. It can be highly frustrating to try and fail at potty training many, many times. That is why EC is a gradual process that is stress free and perfect for those who’d like to try an alternative to potty training.
But "I have a job! I don't have time to do this," you may say. But you do have time! Once you get home and baby is awake, you can try EC a little at a time. It's just the same as feeding and figuring out why baby is crying. All you need to do is pay attention and EC can be a reality in your home. This is only one or two years of their life. You can do it!
